SECTION 1

Purpose of the Endowment Fund - thought process behind the constitution of the Awards

After working for more than 40 years in the field of Surface Engineering & Corrosion Protection,and having contributed so much to the subject, Prof.A .S.Khanna from IIT Bombay, Powai felt that this subject requires much more research & new findings, especially for many Industrial Application in India.
His wife away at age of 49 with an unknown disease called the Motor Neuron Disease (MND) which doesn't have a solution to date.He felt that promoting research in this area will be a tribute to this late wife and will encourage medical professionals to carry out research in this field.
It is felt that many young people inour country are shying away from Indian heritage and values and have lost touch with their core beliefs.Prof. Khanna wishes to dedicate this award to his father by promoting the idea of spreading Indian Culture, habits and values amongst the youth of this country
Prof. Khanna would like to help in the promotion of primary education amongst the underprivileged children and hence, would like to institute an award for the same.

SECTION 2

The allocation of the funds for the above - stated purpose and its management for the stated objectives

An amount of Rs. 1 crore been allocated from Prof. Khanna's superannuation fund.This fund will be suitably invested so as to generate a income every year.
The returns as received from fund so invested, will be used for the constitution of the awards and towards expenses incurred in managing the selection and distribution process of the awards.

SECTION 3

The funds will be parked into investments by an independent designated investment advisor that will deliver dividends and outflows periodically totalling to about Rs.10 lacs per annum which shall be used for the purpose in Section 2. The details of the funds, advisors for the portfolio and the bank accounts used for the same as mentioned in Annexure 1. All the cheques and documents for the Investment purpose will be signed by Prof Khanna.

WORKING GUIDELINES FOR THE ENDOWMENT FUND

  1. The awards will be distributed on the 15th of September every year in a gala function
  2. The process of selection of the awardees will begin on the 1stof January every year and will be completed by the 31st of July each year, as per the regulations of the fund
  3. The managing committee will be responsible for the selection of the awardees strictly as per procedure as laid down in Section 3 of this document
  4. These awards will be permanently established and will be reviewed for any improvements or changes once in 5 years by the Managing Committee
  5. Intimation of the beginning of the selection procedure and the dates of the awards will be advertised in a leading daily newspaper by the last week of December each year for the following year's awards
  6. In the event of none of the applicants being selected for a particular award category, the amount of the award shall be moved to the following year wherein there will be two awards given in one year for the same category

ANNEXURE 2

Procedure for application for the awards - guidelines for the applicants & documents to be provided along with the application form

  1. Announcement of Awards in a leading daily News Paper in the first week of January every year.
  2. All applications will be made online and documents required will be in a single PDF file sent along with the application. No hard copy would be accepted.
  3. Each Award has a specific application fees for administrative expenses which should be paid by Bank transfer along with the online application.
  4. Intimation to the scrutnise applicants will be given at the end of April.
  5. The scrutnised application will be forwarded to Selection Committee for finalisation of Nominee for specific Awards in each Category.
  6. Intimation to Nominees for the final Award ceremony will be given by the end of July and the selected nominee shall be required to present for the Award Ceremony which will be held on September 15 each year.
  7. The nominated candidate has to take care of his travel and stay while attending the Award ceremony function.

ANNEXURE 3

guidelines for the Managing committee to choose the awardees

1.1 Annual Lecture on Surface Engineering

Surface Engineering is a very wide subject. Almost all industries require surface modification to meet the requirement their product. There are several to modify the surface there are techniques to characterise the surface to understand the mechanism of the surface modification. Thus, this award will be given to an individual or a group of scientist/engineer who will:



  1. Present a new findings – a new surface effect,
  2. New research, in surface modification
  3. A new process or modification of existing process for surface modification
  4. A new characterisation technique for surface or a new interpretation of the exisiting surface characterisation.
  5. A new characterisation technique for surface or a new interpretation of the exisiting surface characterisation.
  6. A new industrial application.


The lecture has to be presented in a seminar organised during Award Function for 1 hour duration
It should also be submitted as full manuscript with all relevant details ( except those patented)

1.2 Annual Lecture on Corrosion


About 3% of the GDPof many developed countries is lost to Corrosion. It is big wastage and therefore the need of the hour is to minimize it as low as possible by creating awareness, new research in making corrosion free materials, new methods of corrosion protection, new developments in health monitoring and Quality assurance and management to preserve the plant asset.

The award will be given to an individual or a group of researchers who present a neat research paper which can highlight any of the above or provide substantial modification in the existing technique or methodology.

The lecture has to be presented in a seminar organised during Award Function for 1 hour duration.

It should also be submitted as full manuscript with all relevant details ( except those patented)
