Purpose of the Endowment Fund - thought process behind the constitution of the Awards
After working for more than 40 years in the field of Surface Engineering & Corrosion Protection, and having contributed so much to the subject, Prof.A .S.Khanna from IIT Bombay, Powai felt that this subject requires much more research & new findings, especially for many Industrial Application in India.
His wife away at age of 49 with an unknown disease called the Motor Neuron Disease (MND) which doesn't have a solution to date.He felt that promoting research in this area will be a tribute to this late wife and will encourage medical professionals to carry out research in this field.
It is felt that many young people inour country are shying away from Indian heritage and values and have lost touch with their core beliefs.Prof. Khanna wishes to dedicate this award to his father by promoting the idea of spreading Indian Culture, habits and values amongst the youth of this country

1.1 Annual Lecture on Surface Engineering
Surface Engineering is a very wide subject. Almost all industries require surface modification to meet the requirement their product. There are several to modify the surface there are techniques to characterise the surface to understand the mechanism of the surface modification. Thus, this award will be given to an individual or a group of scientist/engineer who will:
The lecture has to be presented in a seminar organised during Award Function for 1 hour duration
It should also be submitted as full manuscript with all relevant details ( except those patented)
About 3% of the GDPof many developed countries is lost to Corrosion. It is big wastage and therefore the need of the hour is to minimize it as low as possible by creating awareness, new research in making corrosion free materials, new methods of corrosion protection, new developments in health monitoring and Quality assurance and management to preserve the plant asset.
The award will be given to an individual or a group of researchers who present a neat research paper which can highlight any of the above or provide substantial modification in the existing technique or methodology.
The lecture has to be presented in a seminar organised during Award Function for 1 hour duration.
It should also be submitted as full manuscript with all relevant details ( except those patented)
The Aim of this Award is to see how much effort the faculty is taking to teach corrosion & Surface Engineering. He has to submit
The aim of this award is to encourage and motivate research by young Ph.D's. The award will be given on the following basis:
Two Awards for Students for various IIT's and 2 for NIT's, Universities and Research Institutes
The aim of the award is to encourage the work by a young Master student who has created new invention or a new product of immediate use to industry or common man. It will be judged on the quality research, methodology used and the clarity of the final product formation.
3 Awards for IIT's and 2 for Universities and Research Institutes.
It is high time industry who have lots of money and resources carry out useful R & D which can bring new and latest products in market. The Society will award 3 best R & D efforts which will lead to the excellent addition to the existing information or process, or a new product which can ease the life of common man.
For Medical Research in Motor Neuron Disease
Motor neuron disease though not very common but is a very dangerous desease.Till today there is no authentic information of its origin, cause, cure and remedy. Hence any effort in understanding this disease should be rewarded.
Applications from practicing medical professionals will be invited to see the extent of work being carried out and the best will be Researcher rewarded.
on any individual/NGO promoting Indian Culture, values, and training
In a Hindu dominated country like India, we are going far away from valuable Indian traditions. We feel proud on Western Culture which has relatively poor in family values, traditions, culture and heritage . We have decided to give an award to one individual or a group who is promoting these values in a clean way without creating any hatered for other religion.
This award is basically to help poor beginners who have financial problems to begin school or provide facilities, or stationery to school to promote primary education
